Repton School Students Excel in International Tennis Training Camp

Repton School, renowned for its exceptional tennis programme, recently provided its students with an invaluable opportunity to enhance their skills on an international stage. A select group of 20 pupils from the school attended a week-long performance training camp at the prestigious Ferrer Tennis Academy (FTA) in Spain.

Located in La Nucia, the Ferrer Tennis Academy is recognized globally for its comprehensive training facilities. The academy boasts world-class infrastructure, including three hard courts, six clay courts, and a central court with ample spectator space. These facilities are ideal for nurturing the talents of aspiring tennis players from Repton School.

During their time at the academy, students engaged in intensive training sessions. Their schedule included clay court practice, match play, and strength and conditioning exercises. These sessions were led by Andrew Richardson, the academy’s head coach, known for guiding British player Emma Raducanu to her historic U.S. Open triumph in 2021. The Repton School pupils also had the chance to compete against full-time academy trainees, gaining valuable experience and insights into professional training regimens.

James Rushby, Repton’s director of tennis, emphasized the importance of such international experiences in fostering both personal and athletic growth. He noted that the students not only honed their technical skills but also developed a strong team spirit and camaraderie. The experience was a testament to Repton School’s commitment to developing well-rounded athletes who excel both on and off the court.
